London The V and A Courtyard

"This summer leading chinese architect JungHo Chang has transformed the John Majedski Garden with a unique installation. Screening elements traditional in chines garden design made from recyclable plastic paving blocks used in construction sites all over China . He has used a banal and utilitarian material to create a sumptuous garden space ."
As I am looking at the idea os screening this was fascinating the idea of creating screening for outside as well as inside is something to consider .

London

A very fruitful trip to London mainly to see the RCA Show to see what the textiles were like and how they were displayed ..
Websites to check out
www.KristineMandsberg.com She presented a silent movie with a black and white background with her as the main character wearing her textiles , you had to see it to appreciate it .
www.ellapeters.com Laser printed adhesive vinyl put on the back of perspex strips and displayed as a screen and stairs . Particularly interesting for me with the transparency and the idea of screening .
Shireen Battiwalas beautifully hand stitched drawings of birds.
Rachel Templeman 's flocked and foiled pieces ceiling to floor organic abstracted shapes on some kind of vinyl or lightweight leather .
In product design Simon Hasan with his recycled /rethought products a paintbrush with a metal paintcan openerattached , a rubber with a groove to hold a pencil etc . He is into empowering people to do their on recycling entitled "Nest Building " his video shows how . Go to simonhasan.com.
It was also Architecture week  so lots of amazing exhibitions and events including the worlds largest living room outside Somerset House(see image above) where "Skin and Bones " fashion and architecture was on , a whole other story .

Fabric for interiors

Using the design created for the laser cut paper I have prepred a screen and primted on to viscose satin that I have dyed to match a chair at home and also taken the same screen and used a devore technique the wrong side of the fabric is almost silvery . When layered up creates an illusion of looking through foliage .
